Racing in Ararat has long been a tradition and it is rumored that the Ararat Racecourse is amongst one of the oldest in the state and held it's first race meeting in 1857. 

 

Ararat is host to seven racemeetings in the 2012-2013 Season. The racing jumps into action on Friday 23rd September with a Spring Midweek Racemeeting - If you're looking to kick start your weekend head to NMIT Ararat Park for an exciting afternoon of racing.

 

Billed as the 'Richest Raceday in the Wimmera Racing Calendar' the NMIT Ararat Gold Cup, Sunday 6th November is a cracking day and one definitely not to miss. The day promises a massive day of racing including the running of the NMIT Ararat Gold Cup, the TABSportsbet China Bowl and the AME Systems Country showcase race - totaling over $200K in prize money. As well as all the horseracing action there is plenty to do and experience at this years Ararat Cup. The Fashions on the Field is incredibly popular in Ararat with various categories covering Little Miss & Mister, Miss Teen, Gent of the Day & the hugely anticipated Lady of the Day. There are fabulous prizes to be won all of which are kindly sponsored by various local businesses. There is always great live music at the Cup, free kids activities, beautiful food and wine options and a great atmosphere. Marquees packages are very popular at the Cup and sell quick so be sure to get in early. 

 

Ararat holds an additional six racemeetings throughout the year, most of which are Mid-week Racemeetings with the exception of our new Sunday Racemeeting. The Willaura Cup will be held for the second time on Sunday the 29th of April 2012 so stay tuned for more information in the coming months.  We always have full catering, tote and bar facilities available on-course.
