Ballan Jockey Club is a real country race club and its annual meeting is held at Geelong Race course. As the old racecourse in Ballan slowly deterioated, enthusiasm for racing did not and, while the club members are from all over Victoria but mainly based in Ballan and Gordon in the heart of the Moorabool Shire, the country comes to Geelong to race!
Ballan is the Capital of the Moorabool Shire and the Cup draws people to the races from Ballarat, Greendale, Bacchus Marsh, Mt Egerton, Gordon, Napoleons, Blackwood, Beremboke, Gisbourne, Trentham, Creswick and Lal Lal and from as far afield as East Gippsland, Colac, Shepparton and the surrounds of Geelong and Melbourne
The Ballan Farmers Market is offering produce direct from the farmer this year at the Ballan Cup at Geelong.
Bring along a picnic and sample slow cooked pork rolls and bacon and egg rolls from Zed and Co Free Range Farms in Ballan; milkshakes and coffee from the Dairy in Dunnstown; local wines; home made sweets from Gordon; farmhouse cheeses from the Goldfields; olives and olive oil from Mt Egerton; biscuits, slices, cakes, muesli; Cornish Fudge; home made pies; Jams and lemon butter; sour dough breads from Daylesford; and potatoes and farm produce from Korweinguboora
The Ballan Cup is usually held on the last day of the Spring Racing Carnival, known at Flemington as Stakes Day, catering for families and children. The Ballan Jockey Club also caters for families and children with free jumping caste and face painting. This is a day full of fun and flavour when it is a punter's paradise with racing at its best during the Spring.
The feature races on the card are the Cornerstone Rosebowl and the Sportingbet Ballan Cup, both races not to be missed. Presentations of trophies to the winning connnections take place in the Mounting Yard with cups for the winning owner, trainer and jockey. A striking Medusa crystal bowl is presentated to the winner of the Cornerstone Rosebowl along with a free service to a stallion at the famous Cornerstone Stud at Angaston in South Australia.
Owners and Trainers are welcome in the Owners and Trainers Bar after the nominated race and free parking is provided on course.
Fashions on the Field entrants are mostly country girls with city sophistication - a lethal mix of beauty and style. Categories include:

CAR The Geelong racetrack is reached after an easy 80 km drive from Melbourne CBD along the Princes Highway in freeway conditions. Continue on the Princes Hwy (M1) into Geelong until you see Kardinia Park (Geelong Football Stadium) on your LHS. The first major road past the park/stadium is Fyans Road. Take a left at Fyans Road and follow it until you cross a railway line (see further directions below)
If you divert to the CBD of Geelong, take Moorabool Street (away from the Bay), after about 2 km you will pass the very obvious and impressive Geelong Football Stadium (on your RHS), and take a left at the next main intersection, Fyans Road. About 2km along this road you will cross over a railway line and wiggle around a roundabout - now look to your front/right for Breakwater Road (Geelong Showgrounds are evident ahead/right). Turn right at the Showgrounds corner.
The course entrance to the Members'area is easily found on the LHS after 600m.
Parking is FREE Take Breakwater Road (with the Showgrounds on your left) for 0.5 km and the racetrack is soon seen on your LHS TRAIN The nearest station, with connection to Melbourne is the South Geelong station .. The trip takes about one hour. The Geelong South Station is about a 15 walk from the racetrack, so organising a taxi or other transport is highly recommended.
