Camperdown Turf Club

Camperdown Turf Club has got it all!

Steeped in history, the Camperdown Turf Club is one of the Western District’s most picturesque racecourses. Just a leisurely two hour cruise down the Princes Freeway from Melbourne it is a must for the bucket list.

Camperdown is renowned for its heritage listed, iron made grandstand where race fans can grab a drink and position themselves with the best view of the thundering thoroughbreds flying past the winning post on the biggest day of the year, The Camperdown Cup.

Situated among Camperdown hillside, just shy of Lake Colongulac, Camperdown is a stunning country town, nestled in between Colac and Warrnambool that boasts terrific racing, but also plenty of activities, dining and accommodation in the region, making it an easy, yet brief weekend getaway to tie in with the Camperdown Cup.

About the Region

About Camperdown

Take the picturesque inland alternative to the Great Ocean Road and follow the Princes Highway to Camperdown, one of the major towns in the Shipwreck Coast hinterland.

Thanks to the temperate climate that stimulates lush natural pasture growth, Camperdown is one of Australia’s most prestigious dairying regions and the surrounding lakes are known as great places to fish for trout and chinook salmon.

Camperdown rests at the foot of Mount Leura, a volcanic cone (and excellent lookout) that lies between the coastal ranges and the rolling western plains. Volcanic activity has shaped much of the surrounding landscape, leaving a legacy of cones, lakes and craters and it is now one of the world’s largest volcanic plains.

Mt Leura and Mt Sugarloaf are the highest points and display the volcanic terrain with 360-degree views.
