Racing in Ararat has long been a tradition and it is rumored that the Ararat Racecourse is amongst one of the oldest in the state.
Ararat is host to eight racemeetings in the 2010-2011 Season. The racing jumps into action on Tuesday 14th September with a Spring Midweek Racemeeting - If you're looking for a relaxed raceday with little frills this could be the one for you.
Billed as the 'Richest Raceday in the Wimmera Racing Calendar' the NMIT Gold Ararat Cup, 7th November is a cracking day and one definitely not to miss. The day promises a massive day of racing including the running of the NMIT Ararat Gold Cup, the Luxbet China Bowl and the final of the Golden Grain Series - totaling over $100K in prize value. As well as all the horseracing action there is plenty to do and experience at this years Ararat Cup. The Pollyannes/Bailey's on Barkly Fashions on the Field is incredibly popular in Ararat with various categories covering Little Miss & Mister, Miss Teen, Gent of the Day & the hugely anticipated Lady of the Day. There are fabulous prizes to be won all of which are kindly sponsored by various local businesses. There is always great live music at the Cup, free kids activities, beautiful food and wine options and a great atmosphere. Marquees packages are very popular at the Cup and sell quick so be sure to get in early.
Ararat holds an additional six racemeetings throughout the year, most of which are Mid-week Racemeetings with the exception of one Saturday Racemeeting. If a chilled-out experience is what you're after come see us on: Monday 10th Jan, Monday 14th Feb, Monday 28th March, Monday 11th April, Monday 30th May and Saturday 25th June. We always have full catering, tote and bar facilities available on-course.
