Omeo & District Racing Club
Experience High Country Picnic racing at its best on the Omeo High Plains, high in the Australian Alps. Held on Saturday of the Labour Day weekend in March, the Hinnomunjie Picnic Races is an event not to be missed.
The Omeo District Race Club was established in 1876 by a group of enthusiast locals with a love for thoroughbred racing, who trained their winning steeds on
Lake
Omeo in the Summer months. Our event are organised by passionate community volunteers who travel from afar, donating their time and services to make each of the 6 Trophy Races and the day festivities one to truly remember.
Fashions of the Field are a feature on the day including Lady of the Day, Mr Dapper and Filly and Coals. There are plenty of activities to keep the kids happy; jumping castle, magician, clowns, colouring competitions, foot races, face painting and other surprises on the day.
Fine food, wine and local produce to sample and locally made garments, soap are just a few things to enjoy during the day or take home to enjoy.
The Picnic Racing circuit provides a chance for trainers and owners to commence and expand their career. For approved riders, picnic racing is an opportunity to advance their skills and experience in the industry.
Don’t be fooled by the laidback atmosphere, each race at a picnic meeting is hotly contested and provides all the thrills of a day at the races.
Melbourne races are also televised during the day.
