Merton Amateur Turf Club

Now in it’s 149th year, the Merton Amateur Turf Club’s New Year’s Day race meeting is a chance for locals and visitors to come together to enjoy an authentic picnic racing experience.

With century old elm trees creating all the shade you need and great track-side viewing, the ‘picnics at Merton’ is the only place to be on New Year’s Day.

The kids will be well entertained with activities including a petting farm, games, face painting as well as running races on the track, while our five categories of Fashions on the Field are always hotly contested.

Enjoy a beer or wine from the publican’s booth on course or pack your own esky with your favorite drop – either way, we encourage, expect and enforce the responsible drinking of alcohol.
