Echuca Racing Club was announced the winner of the Winning Edge Presentations Victorian Country Club of the Year at the Country Victorian Racing Awards at Betfair Park Sandown Racecourse today, edging out fellow finalists Avoca Racing Club, Geelong Racing Club and Kerang Racing Club.
As the table was showered with confetti, Echuca Racing committee members and staff celebrated achieving the award before Club president Neil Edwards accepted the award.
Echuca Racing, Club Manager Garry Armstrong said the Club had set some challenging goals in its five-year strategic plan, and was proud to be making every post a winner thus far.
“While the 2009-10 season has seen some fantastic results, the Club has a clear direction and realises that continued improvement is required to achieve our goals,” Armstrong said.
“Considering where this Club was five years ago, to win Club of the Year Award is a massive achievement.”
“As a Club we have made a concerted effort to improve our level of professionalism and what is delivered to customers, become more self-sufficient and re-invested into our on-course product to ensure our customers benefit.
“This is a superb result for the Club, the Board and everyone involved with Echuca Racing.”
Last season Echuca Racing Club again attracted more patrons than previous years to its race days, despite the cup meeting being partially abandoned due to bad weather.
An area of growth has been pre-paid raceday packages, with the reputation of a great day out at a Echuca race meeting continuing to be enhanced.
Country Racing Victoria Chief Executive Officer Scott Whiteman congratulated Echuca Racing Club for winning in the prestigious Club of the Year award.
“It is a credit to the Club management and committee that Echuca Racing Club has become a benchmark of country racing clubs in Victoria,” Whiteman said.
“The Club has a clear vision of what it wants to achieve and is taking all the right steps in getting there. It has not rested, but continued to successfully forge forward.
“Everybody involved in Echuca Racing Club deserves the utmost credit for winning this award.”
