Former Kerang local Bree Laughlin was named the 2009 Country's Best Dressed Racegoer after entering the Fashions on the Field competition at Manangatang Cup Day. The North Melbourne based accountant, who works at Pitcher Partners, won the day and then attracted 29.6% of the public votes online.
Laughlin won the Fashions on the Field competition at the GRAINassist Manangatang Cup race meeting on October 10, becoming the third winner of this popular competition. Like 2008 winner Lisa Fischer, Laughlin was urged by friends to enter the competition while riding the bus to the races. Aside from being named the 2009 Country’s Best Dressed Racegoer, Laughlin has won a $3000 Myer shopping spree and a Dr Lewinn’s Private Formula Hamper valued at $1000.
Luxbet.com Cranbourne Cup Fashion on the Field winner Michelle Harrington was the first runner-up and received 12.1% of the public votes. Hayley Newman, who won Fashions on the Field at the Yarra Valley Food & Wine Race Day received 9% of the public votes and was named second runner-up. Both ladies received a $1000 Myer shopping spree and a Dr Lewinn’s Private Formula Hamper valued at $500.
Now in its third year, the Country’s Best Dressed Racegoer competition is an overall country fashions competition which runs throughout the Spring Carnival. Each participating Club nominates one of their Fashions on the Field category winners for the overall competition. The finalist’s picture is then posted on the Spring Racing Carnival website where the public can vote for their favourite entrant. People who vote then go into the draw to win one of six Mantra Hotel packages, and the finalist with the most votes is crowned the Country’s Best Dressed Racegoer.
